Make Your Gutter Cleaning Go Faster By Installing Gutter Screens

Most homeowners without gutter screens are very familiar with the frustrating and filthy chore of cleaning out the gutters. If you live in any of the many parts of the world that get a huge amount of rain each year you dread the thought of cleaning your gutters around your home each and every time it comes up. Why is it such a nightmare? The reason that cleaning copper rain gutters is such a pain is that it is up in the air, where most people are not comfortable, and it involves getting soaking wet and covered in dirt. The good thing is that the old way is not the only way. These days we have products like the ez lock which are simply gutter covers that will stop the majority of the debris from getting into your cutters and clogging them up. Gutter screens are a simple concept but they will save you so much time that you will hardly be able to believe it.

There are many designs of gutter screens and gutter covers but they all pretty much have the same purpose. Depending on the size of the holes in the grating or screen, certain size pieces of trash or foliage will be allowed to get through into the horizontal part of the gutter system. The hopes are that the pieces that make it through the mesh are small enough to be flushed by rain from the next storm down the downspout and onto the ground. As the homeowner you will have to decide what style you would like because they all have their positive points and negative points. If the holes are too small then no debris will make it into the gutters. This may seem like a great thing but the reality is that what does not go into the gutter will often sit on top and clog the screening. If the screening is clogged the outcome is the same as if the gutter was clogged. If you go with a mesh that has larger holes in it, lots of debris will be able to get through. Most will flush all the way to the ground; however lots will sit in the horizontal part or the junction between the horizontal and vertical portions.

You will have to figure out what types of clogging agents are common where you live and use that information to decide what type of gutter cover you want to install. If you live in a part of the world that has large leaves and things like that you may want to go with gutter screens. The reason is that you can very easily sweep or use a leaf blower to simply push the leaves off of the top of the screens. If you live in a very dusty area that tends to have lots of airborne dust and dirt then screens are not necessarily the best choice, a larger grating may work better. Ask professionals and fellow homeowners for their opinions and use what you learn to make the most educated decision that you can.
