You Can Do Your Own Home Roof Repair For Little Money

Depending on the type of roof you have, home roof repair is really not all that difficult. The majority of leaks that we get in our roof are not things that happened over the course of a week, they are typically things that have progressed over a number of months or even years. The good thing is that most of these repairs are simple since they only involve an isolated area, usually a crack in a shingle or tile. In fact, the hardest part about the most common problems is actually figuring out where the problem is located. When it comes to mobile home roof repair things are not so simple. In this article we will cover how to identify where the problem is in your particular type of roof so that you can do your very own home roof repair.

The type of repairs that we are speaking of is not truss related or construction related. They are simple spray foam or adhesive types of repairs. We will start with the easiest types of roofs to repair and that is shingle ones. Inside the structure there will be signs of a leak, which is how you know there is an issue in the first place. Figure out where that inside issue translates to the outer roof. You will have to climb to the top of the roof and do a roof leak repair. Since most homes have no access doors to the roof, you will have to climb up a tall ladder. Make sure that you use proper safety techniques when ascending the ladder. When you find the location where the leak should be, look for any damage to the surrounding shingles. The damage can take the appearance of curled up shingles or even cracked ones. Look carefully since leaks can be caused by even the smallest cracks.

The easiest ones to fix are the shingles that are curled up. If you have to make a repair to a curled up shingle it is best to wait for a nice warm, or even hot, day. The warmth will make the shingles more soft and pliable making it easier to repair. Also make sure to repair it before the next rains, because it can damage the leak further and damage your house gutters. Go to the hardware store and pick up some asphalt roof cement. This can be found in the adhesive section and is usually used in conjunction with a caulk gun. Lift the edge of the shingle and put some cement on it. Put the shingle back down to cure. If the shingle does not go all the way down due to the adhesive, then you can place something heavy on it for the curing time. In cold weather you may have to use a torch of some kind to soften the shingle a bit before it is repaired so that it does not shatter when bent.

If you have a shingle roof then you are in a much better position to do your own home roof repair. All it usually takes is a bit of time and a small amount of effort to save tons of money on repair bills.
